How do I search the listings?

From the top bar, select the kind of search you want from the drop-down menu. You can search by Programme Title, Keyword, Actor, Genre, or date. You will then be presented with either another dropdown list, or a text box to add the parameters for your search (actor name, programme title etc). When you've completed this box (or selected the correct date), simply click the "Get listing" link. TVPlanner will then search programme data for the next two weeks for programmes matching your search criterion.

What channels are searched?

TVPlanner searches ten channels at a time. By default, these are BBC1, BBC2, ITV London, Channel 4, Five, BBC3, BBC4, ITV2, ITV3 and Sky One. However, if you are registered with TVPlanner you can select any ten from almost 250 channels and regional variations. If you are logged in when you search, your search will be performed across these ten - if you log out, your search will be performed across the default channels.

You can also, even if you're not registered, select a different set of channels from the dropdown list near the top of the screen. These are themed sets of channels - Film, Sport etc.

Can I see what I've missed?

Yes - the "search by date" option from the top bar now includes options to see the previous two weeks' listings. Please however be aware that for some channels this data may not always be available. Additionally, clicking a title will serach TVPlanner for that programme coming up in the next two weeks from today - so you may not get any results.

How do I register with TVPlanner?

Simply click the "Register" button above the search bar. You will be asked for your name and email address. After completing the form you will receive an email with a confirmation link and your password. When you've visited the confirmation page your account will be activated. This procedure is designed to prevent people maliciously signing up others who may not wish to be members of TVPlanner.

Why should I register?

Registering with TVPlanner will let you search channels other than the default ten, and will also allow you to set email reminders for programmes you are interested in.

What are the RSS and Email buttons at the top of my search results?

If you want to be reminded regularly (without having to visit the TVPlanner website), you can click one of these buttons. Clicking the RSS button will set up a news feed which you will be able to read with the aid of a News Reader.

Clicking the Email button will allow you to set up an email reminder. Each day, TVPlanner will check its data for programmes matching your search criteria. If there are any scheduled for the next two days, you'll receive an email containing the programme details. You will need to be registered with TVPlanner to use this facility.

Both RSS and Email searches now search the set of ten channels you were using when you registered the search, whether that's the default ten, a different predetermined set of channels, or your own personal choice of channels. If you change your choice of channels, any email or RSS searches on that topic will continue to search on your old choices.
